Produced in New Rochelle, Ny, Penny Chenery, also called Helen Bates Chenery Tweedy, was raised in Virginia, and grew up around horses. Her family possessed the famous Meadow Farm, a thoroughbred racing and horse breeding farm. After her dad became sick, she decided to take on the farm, even though her sibs were against it. Within 36 months of her taking over, the stable had become prosperous again. She received the Eclipse Award of Merit in 2006, as well as The Arlington Park Penny Chenery Differentiated Woman in Racing Award was created in her honour. In 2010, a movie version of her story called, “Secretariat”, was released.
